Oblation, Meditations on St. Benedict's Rule (Paraclete
Press, 2006) by Rachel M Srubas is the first book
reviewed on this page. A Preface and Introduction by the author
chronicle a journey of both spiritual reading and
spiritual writing informed by the Benedictine practice of
lectio divina.
Oblation takes
the form of a series of poetic reflections on excerpts from St.
Benedict's Rule. An excellent choice for those who pray or write
and for all who desire a deeper understanding of Benedictine
practice.

Love--A Glimpse of Eternity, by Ernesto Cardenal (1970),
was released in September 2006 in an updated translation by
Dinah Livingstone. Thomas Merton (Cardenal's mentor at the Abbey
of Gethsemani) writes in the preface, "With the depth of
conviction Cardenal speaks again and again of that which simply
is. Love is. All else is not, because in the same
measure in which things partake of being, they partake of love."
