The theology of the Catholic Worker has been influenced by Benedictine tradition, the social teachings of the Church, personalism, and the Gospel (particularly Matthew 25).

Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin (and friends such as Phil Berrigan, Dan Berrigan, and Thomas Merton) have had a profound influence on American Catholicism.
